Originally silver-plated cast
brass plate with a die-stamped brass tongue disc. Sturdy
stock pattern purchased in quantity shortly before the Civil War. At a
glance this pre-war South Carolina appears identical to previous
specimens, however, the tongue disc was struck by a different die and
the wreath has been turned upside-down. During the late 1850’s,
several other southern states acquired this style displaying their
respective motifs.
