Die-stamped
brass face, lead filled, brass tongue. Note the one we carry is
sand-cast brass. This well-struck plate resembles the lead-filled US
Model 1851 sword plate. Its craftsmanship indicates northern (or
European) manufacturer probably during the 1850’s. After the war, the
La. motto was altered to read “Union first”. Many solid cast
versions of this plate were produced after the war.
